The Story Behind Polidoc
From the Frontlines to the Future of Claims
Brandon Bowker, Founder
After eight years working closely with claims teams in the Property & Casualty space, I’ve seen claims from nearly every angle. I started my career as a claims adjuster in auto, but quickly moved into homeowners. I found myself fascinated by the nuance—how small details in the loss or a single line of policy language could lead to dramatically different outcomes.
That interest in detail and decision-making led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Data Analytics. Soon after, I transitioned into a Claims Business Analyst role. There, I got the 10,000-foot view of the entire operation. I worked with claims managers, combining my field experience with technical insight to improve workflows and support the team’s strategic goals.
But something always stood out: the tools and processes adjusters were using were... outdated. Despite the scale and sophistication of many carriers, much of the actual day-to-day claims work was being done the same way it had been for decades.
I’d often hear, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” But what if it’s not broken—just incredibly inefficient? Comfort with the familiar often comes at the cost of progress.
As a homeowners adjuster, I remember the exact moment it clicked. I was spending hours finding Word docs, hunting for policy language, copying and pasting citations, and flagging tasks for supervisors—hoping they’d see them in time. The work was repetitive, prone to error, and slowed down a process that could be streamlined. I thought: If these decisions aren’t subjective, why can’t a system help find the right citations and manage the workflow?
Years later, as AI started taking over headlines and many of our competitors began using it to draft coverage letters, I saw opportunity… and risk. AI is powerful, but it isn’t always reliable. It can “hallucinate,” suggest wrong interpretations, and quietly strip away the judgment of licensed professionals. Worse, some regulators (like in Florida) have started pushing back against its use in coverage determinations altogether.
I didn’t want to replace adjusters. I wanted to empower them.
That’s why I created Polidoc. A platform designed by someone who’s done the job, understands the pain points, and believes that while tools should make us faster and more efficient, they should never replace the expertise of trained professionals.
